BASARA SARASWATHI
Basara Temple is a larger attraction in the Adilabad Tourism Temple is located 200 Kms from Hyderabad, AP. Sri Gnana Saraswathi temple in Basara on the Godavari River is the only temple in South India dedicated to the Goddess of learning.Legend says that after the Mahabharata war, the sage Veda Vyasa undertook a pilgrimage in search of peace.
He came to the serene hills of Kumaranchala on the banks of the Godavari River and meditated and propitiated the Goddess who eventually appeared before him and bestowed his presence in the form of the divine trinity.
The Goddess ordered the sage to place three handfuls of sand in three places every day. Miraculously these sand dunes became the idols of the divine trinity, ie Saraswathi, Lakshmi and Kali.
These are the deities who preside today Basar. Despite the presence of the trinity, the temple is dedicated to the goddess Saraswathi.
The children are brought here for the Akshara puja ceremony to begin their education with the blessings of the Goddess of Knowledge. The Vedavathi Sila, the Ashtateertha are other places of interest around Basar. Thousands of devotees bathe in the Godavari River and seek the blessings of the Goddess during the Mahashivarathri, Dassera navratris and Vasantha panchami.
