This island is located in the north of Goa about 35 kms from the airport, 10 kms from 'Panjim' the capital and about 20 km from the popular beaches and tourist places of northern Goa. The island is approximately 25 square kilometers in size and consists of 30 picturesque villages with a population of around 20,000 people. Recently, it is connected to the mainland on the north side by a small bridge over a stream. Getting to the island is quick and easy as it is easily accessible by short ferry passages at two points on the island. The sun kissed and the picturesque island of Chorao is surrounded by rivers and has abundant mangroves along the banks. It is home to Dr. Salim Ali's famous bird sanctuary and has unique natural trails and wetland ponds with a variety of birds. It is a green paradise for nature lovers. This beautiful, picturesque and unspoilt island is a gateway to the ultimate getaway, away from the madding crowds where one can soak in the true tradition of Goa's village life and experience the soothing sounds of nature.
