History of the fortress of Golconda:

The fortress of Golconda of century XIII was constructed by the kings of Kakatiya. The existing structure was later built by Qutub Shahi Kings in a massive fort with eight-door granite walls and 87 bastions extended to 7 kms, in circumference over a span of 62 years. Golconda Force, popularly known in Telgu as "Golla Konda", which means "Shepherd's Hill", has an exotic story behind it. In 1143, on the rocky hill known as "Mangalavaram", a shepherd encountered an image and was transmitted to the king Kakatiya, who ruled at that time. The 10 km long road from Golconda to Hyderabad outside was a fantastic market selling jewelery, diamonds, pearls and other gems, popular all over the world.
