BIRLA MANDIR DELHI

Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is located west of Connaught Place in New Delhi. Created by Raja Baldev Das in 1938, it is dedicated to Vishnu and the goddess Lakshmi. Also known as Birla Mandir in New Delhi, this temple has a very interesting history attached to it. Built over a period of six years, the temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. But he maintained a condition that would inaugurate the Delhi Laxmi Narain Temple, where people of all castes especially untouchable, would be able to enter. The temple is one of the main drag of the city and is visited by many devotees and international tourists every year.Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is built well, albeit with a modern twist. Decoration, wooden sculptures that adorn the temples to describe the scenes of mythology.

Birla Mandir is also famous for the Janmashtami festival (birth of the Hindu deity Krishna). The festival is celebrated here with great goodwill and joy.


The temple is designed in the style of Orissan, with high curved towers crowned by large amalakas (circular motifs grooved at the top of a temple tower). The exterior faces the white red sandstone typical of Delhi Mughal architecture. The inner courtyard is overlooked by the two-story verandas on three sides; There are gardens and fountains in the back. The profusion of sculptures, idols, needles and jalis, the Birla Mandir in Delhi is also considered as splendor in terms of its architecture.
